Definitions of Assignee Work and Exempted Work
The Department of Energy (DOE) Unclassified Foreign National Access Program (UFNAP) outlines the following requirements and exemptions for non-U.S. employees, assignee, and other foreign nationals seeking access to DOE national laboratories.
Assignee/Work

The individual will be performing work at, or for, SLAC. This includes any of the following:
- Persons being compensated through the prime or sub-contract,
- Participation in reviews, meetings, workshops, and conferences involving access to non-public technical details about work performed under the DOE mission,
- Performing experiments including but not limited to using DOE User Facilities or SLAC Labs, or
- All individuals requiring access to DOE-owned/operated networks or information technology systems including remote access.
Exempted work
(FACTS entry & Indices check is not required)
Exempted work are those individuals accessing the site but not performing work, Examples may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Individuals coming to SLAC to attend a conference/seminar involving public information, or not related to the DOE mission
- All individuals staying at the Stanford guesthouse.
- All delivery personnel/vendors making deliveries to SLAC in General Access Areas.
- Individuals participating in Job-walks or tours, not performing work on site.
- Individuals coming on site to participate in Tours, Personal visits.
- Construction & Custodial
