Some work on the SLAC campus, while others work remotely. Regardless, all guests must be sponsored by a SLAC employee and receive approval before access is granted.

What to expect

You must provide a unique mail address to your host to be invited. Once you receive the invitation, you may be asked to provide additional documentation. 

Invitation

SLAC employees invite guests via the SLAC Guest Gateway. Guests receive an automated email from no-reply@slac.stanford.edu with a unique link to a secure online registration form.

Information collection

You must provide your personal information, which may include nationality, emergency contact, and other relevant details, on the registration form. Registration forms cannot be saved in-progress. Gather all required documentation prior to starting your registration. 

 

If additional documentation is required, you will be asked to upload it via a secure portal. Foreign nationals or those with an association with a foreign country should review the entry requirements and the documents they will need to complete their registration here.

 

Personal information provided during registration is securely managed and used only to support the guest approval and site access.

Access determination

Once a determination is made, you will receive an automated email notifying you of the decision. Guests coming to SLAC will also receive an email with a QR code you will present upon arrival at SLAC.

At that time, you can start making necessary travel arrangements. Guest travel guidance can be found at SLAC Travel.

SLAC supports federated authentication, allowing many guests to log in to SLAC resources using their home institution credentials. To access SLAC resources, register your federated ID or select 'SLAC Guest' to proceed.

Complete training

Guests planning to work onsite at the SLAC campus will need to obtain a SLAC ID badge. If you will be working in a radiologically controlled area, you will also need to apply for a dosimeter. Guests must complete safety training before receiving either a badge or a dosimeter.

 

SLAC hosts will guide guests through these processes and any training you need to complete.

Arrival on campus

All guests are required bring their REAL ID-compliant form of identification and QR code, and be prepared to present them at the gate. 

 

Guests should then proceed to building 53 to check-in and obtain their personalized ID badge.

 

Unapproved guests will not be permitted on campus.

Facility for Advanced Accelerator Experimental Tests II (FACET-II)

FACET-II is a National User Facility that provides DOE with the unique capability to develop advanced acceleration and coherent radiation techniques with high-energy electron and positron beams. FACET-II is an opportunity to build on the decades-long experience of advanced accelerator R&D at the FFTB and FACET.

Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) Users

Thousands of scientists have used LCLS's unique capabilities to probe previously unreachable realms in fields from biology and chemistry to materials science and astrophysics. LCLS experiments have generated hundreds of articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals, with almost one-third of them appearing in prominent journals, like Science and Nature.

Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL) Users

SSRL is a leading 3 GeV synchrotron radiation lightsource.  The facility provides a large scientific user community an array of state-of-the-art beam lines and instrument facilities to enable discoveries in materials, chemical, biological, environment, and energy sciences, among others.  SSRL provides outstanding user support, being one of its acknowledged signatures.

Megaelectronvolt Ultrafast Electron Diffraction (MeV-UED)

The MeV-UED instrument, part of the LCLS User Facility, is a powerful "electron camera" for the study of time-resolved, ultrafast atomic & molecular dynamics in chemical and solid-state systems.

Cryo-EM - Cryogenic Electron Microscopy

The Cryo-EM (cryogenic electron microscopy) facility at SLAC, built and operated in partnership with Stanford University, is equipped with multiple state-of-the-art instruments for cryo-EM, a groundbreaking technology whose rapid development over the past few years has given scientists unprecedented views of the inner workings of the cell.

Stanford-SLAC CryoEM Center (S2C2)

One of three National cryoEM Service Centers funded by NIH, S2C2 offers usage of state-of-the-art equipment, technical support, and cross-training for the production and analysis of high-resolution data.  

Stanford-SLAC CryoET Specimen Preparation Service Center (SCSC)

The Center implements state-of-the-art cryo-specimen preparation devices.  SCSC has a tissue culture laboratory, cold room and refrigeration facilities, and standard biochemistry instrumentation available for onsite users. These facilities are BSL-2 compliant.
